NOTE

Indirection - solving your problems by aligning outside interests

Edward Bernays, a master of manipulation, aligned the interests of his clients, such as Fortune 500 companies, with the needs of top officials in the US government. He convinced women to start smoking by presenting it as a symbol of empowerment. To boost book sales, he convinced architects and contractors to include built-in bookshelves in suburban homes. His ultimate goal was to benefit American politicians, the CIA, and ultimately promote bananas. Bernays understood how to control the masses and shape societal behavior in politics, business, and ethics.
