Sweet and sour summer

My parents had a unique tradition called 'Sweet and Sour Summer' where my brother and I were sent for the first half of the summer to experience interesting jobs. At 12, I interned with my god brother, a lobbyist in D.C. I learned a lot, gained confidence, and honed my storytelling skills by pitching bills to congressmen. But then I would come home and work in a construction outfit doing nasty jobs, getting my ass kicked by angry parolees. All for minimum wage.
