Balance Between Reinforcement and Correction
Training dogs has shifted towards more positive reinforcement methods, reducing reliance on punishment and compulsion. While there are times when corrections are necessary, they should be used judiciously, much like parenting. Creating a positive learning environment is crucial; stressful methods hinder understanding and learning. Corrections should only be applied when there's blatant disrespect or unsafe behaviors. The goal is to foster confidence and independence in dogs rather than instill fear through punishment. A dog with a broken spirit is less effective and fails to embody the desired qualities needed for complex tasks.
