NOTE

Evolution of the Mind-Body Problem and Its Philosophical Anchors

The evolution of the human self model is influenced by the need to navigate and escape predators. As we developed social properties and abstract language representations, a mind-body problem arose. However, beings on other planets may not have this same intuitive dissonance. We have Cartesian intuitions that suggest our mental processes can continue independently from our body. These intuitions are rooted in our biological evolution and computational properties of our brain. The mind-body problem is a complex issue with theoretical and empirical aspects. Daniel Dennett's book and the debate over personal and subpersonal properties are important contributions. In psychiatry, the question of being no one relates to a previous experience a quarter century ago.
