The Surprising Rebirth Of Belief In God
Evangelical atheism and lack of knowledge about Christianity
The new atheists, like Richard Dawkins, are perceived as an endpoint in the Christian tradition, spreading the idea that without superstition, individuals can be happier and morally better. This evangelical atheism, advocating for the removal of religious 'static' to hear one's conscience clearly, mirrors the Reformation's call to eliminate 'nonsense' for spiritual clarity. However, this confident evangelical atheism is seen as faltering due to internal contradictions. In contrast, many individuals, especially in Britain, lack sufficient knowledge about Christianity or the Bible to oppose it effectively. This lack of familiarity with Christian teachings results in new atheists using biblical verses out of context to support their arguments.
