Recognizing self-deception poses a complex challenge as the depth of the problem can lead to a degree of self-deception so innate that it becomes indistinguishable from reality. The total immersion in self-deception creates a sense of complete reality and objectivity. The initial step in self-deception is often downplaying its significance and believing that one could easily detect and overcome it, which leads to a false sense of security and marks the beginning of self-deception.
