The Peter Attia Drive

NOTE

Exercise: A Controlled Stress for Health

Exercise serves as a short-term stressor that induces a beneficial hormetic response in the body, akin to a vaccine, by providing a controlled dose of stress that the body can manage. Chronic inflammation represents a more significant health risk than acute inflammatory responses, as it indicates persistent strain on the body. Furthermore, elevated levels of IGF-1 and mTOR, often correlated with poor lifestyle choices and insulin resistance, do not solely dictate cancer risk, highlighting the importance of considering multiple confounding factors. While mTOR does have a role in health, its association with cancer treatments like rapamycin is complex; rapamycin is not an effective preventive measure against cancer when used continuously, although it shows promise for longevity in non-human models.
