NOTE

Vincent Van Gogh’s At Eternities Gate

Vincent Van Gogh, known as one of the most influential artists in history, once worked as a Christian missionary serving the poor in coal mines. In a charcoal sketch from 1882, he depicted an old peasant coal miner, later turning it into an oil painting titled 'At Eternities Gate' where the blue used symbolized the infinite. The painting shows the peasant in prayer, revealing Van Gogh's discovery of a holy helplessness among the miners, contrasting with his ornate upbringing. Prayer, as Van Gogh discovered, is ultimately a humble act of seeking help from God.
