NOTE

Do What You Love

To do something well, you have to like it. Work and fun are often seen as opposites, but this idea is misleading. The purpose of school and working on dull things is to prepare for more interesting work later on. Work should be about making an original contribution to the world, not just about making money. Knowing how much you should enjoy your work is essential. Underestimating this, you may settle for something chosen for you by others or for external reasons like money, prestige, or inertia. Doing what you love doesn't mean doing what you would like to do in the moment, but what will bring you lasting happiness. Unproductive pleasures eventually fade, and you need meaningful work to stay happy. While you don't have to spend all your time working, you have to like your work more than unproductive pleasures. Procrastination becomes a problem when you don't enjoy your work. To be truly happy, you need to be doing something you both enjoy and admire.
