The timing of blood flow is consistently temporally offset between different brain nodes, with one region slightly becoming active before the other. In the case of mood, the healthy population typically shows the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex activating before the cingulate cortex, while in the depressed cohort, this order is reversed in 70% of cases.
