Rate of Learning as a Selection Criterion
In selecting personnel like Green Berets, Rangers, or FBI hostage rescue team members, the critical factor is the rate of learning. If individuals struggle to convert information into behavior change and keep up with the training pipeline, there are two approaches: providing remedial work or deselecting them. The decision depends on the job's demands for a specific learning pace, where selecting individuals with the required rate of learning is crucial. Remediation only temporarily delays the issue and might lead to more significant problems later on.
