Learning through Mistakes and Corrections

Making mistakes and being corrected during learning increases the likelihood of remembering the correct answer. The experience of getting it wrong and then being corrected humbles the learner, making them more focused and less overconfident in their memory. This process, known as metacognition, leads to a change in the learner's approach to acquiring knowledge. Additionally, generating the wrong answer and then being corrected helps to deactivate the neural pathways associated with the wrong answer, increasing the chances of recalling the right answer in the future. Testing oneself and struggling with the material is more effective for learning than repeatedly restudying the material.
