Understanding Different Perspectives and the Socratic Method
Humans have a biological instinct towards territoriality, and triggering someone's identity and how they want to be seen by others can lead to resistance and loss aversion. People can't be reasoned out of a position they didn't reason themselves into. To change someone's mindset, it's essential to understand their perspective by asking questions to uncover their assumptions and logical reasoning, rather than bombarding them with facts. This approach, known as the Socratic method, involves asking incisive questions to provoke a person's understanding of their own viewpoint, leading them to recognize any contradictions or faulty assumptions.
