An odd disease with symptoms such as muscle weakness, body rashes, and sores in the mouth was observed in rural China, leading to the discovery of an AIDS outbreak. Dr. Gao Yaoji, a renowned obstetrician and gynecologist, identified the disease's spread through blood transfusions in the blood collection points set up to cope with a severe blood shortage. The blood collection centers fell into the control of profit-driven 'blood bosses', leading to negligent and unsanitary operations.
