Effectiveness of Patellar Bracing and Taping
Patellar taping is effective in the first six to 12 weeks of a rehab program but loses its effectiveness afterward. Metallic bracing, like a lateral J brace, can stabilize the patellofemoral joint alignment and work well for patellar instability by preventing the patella from slipping out. However, bracing does not improve outcomes for patellofemoral pain. While bracing affects alignment but doesn't accelerate recovery, taping has a significant impact despite not affecting alignment. Understanding such interventions helps in comprehending their effects on recovery.
