Capturing Changes in Relational Databases
The primary motivation for capturing changes in relational databases is for replication purposes, especially when data needs to be transferred across different database systems or vendor boundaries. It is common to replicate data to a data warehouse, real-time analytics store, or search index. Another use case is maintaining cache updates for a denormalized representation close to the user, which requires reacting to change events to synchronize the cache with the operational database.
