Anger can serve a functional purpose by signaling unfair treatment and driving a thought process to identify and remedy the situation. This tension between emotions and reason arises when emotions are rational or irrational. Rational emotions, which guide individuals in the right direction, can be seen as enlightenment. Politicians can manipulate emotions for or against people's well-being. When emotions are manipulated to motivate positive behaviors and support beneficial policies, it is considered acceptable; however, when emotions are wielded to entice actions detrimental to individuals, it is deemed as manipulation.
