NOTE

Cultural Migration and Spiritual Practices in 1800s China

During the 1800s in China, there was a significant cultural migration from the southeast to the southwest of the country, particularly to Sichuan province. This was a time when there were active Taoist lineages open to the public, not just to monastic practitioners. Some of these educated individuals also joined Taoist cultivation groups that were designed for lay people, showcasing a shift in societal roles and pursuits during that period.
