The West Bank is inhabited by three types of settlers: ordinary middle class people seeking financial incentives, middle class individuals who gradually shift ideologically, and ultra-orthodox Jews living in large, dense settlements. Palestinian and Jewish residents are completely segregated, with gated entrances and security guards preventing Palestinians from entering settlements, except as pre-approved workers.
With the world focused on Gaza, Israeli settlers and soldiers are increasing attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank. Writer Nathan Thrall and journalist Dalia Hatuqa explain the decades of tension that shape life in the West Bank.
This episode was produced by Avishay Artsy, edited by Matt Collette, fact-checked by Serena Solin and Laura Bullard, engineered by Patrick Boyd, and hosted by Noel King.
