Building a Durable Moat

Moats in business are durable and are built when a brand becomes a top choice in its industry, creating a strong presence. Switching up the sales model alone does not create a lasting moat. A true moat is established when a company becomes a key player in the conversation of top providers in their field. If a company loses this position due to significant changes like the departure of a founder or drastic price increases, the moat can be weakened. Competing on features or changing the sales model can only create a temporary advantage, not a lasting moat.
