The Importance of Alignment and People Management in a Technical Role
As a leader, you need to understand the architecture and align people to prevent blocking and indecisiveness. Your role is to facilitate and align people in the background, which requires significant effort. People management involves giving feedback, presenting promotions, and defending cases, which can be intimidating. This requires a different skill set than engineering. There will also be an increase in meetings and energy spent on alignment and career management. Giving feedback is challenging, especially when people are resistant to it.
