Freedom of speech stems from the enlightenment concept of freedom of mind, rooted in the core obligation to seek higher truth through discussions and investigation, which is an outgrowth of Judeo-Christianity. The moral principles of Western civilization derive from Judeo-Christian traditions and only hold meaning and vitality within that religious context. Secular attempts to separate these values from their religious roots have led to a culture where essential values wither and die without the life-giving power of faith.
