"Plant-based proteins typically have lower levels of essential amino acids like leucine compared to animal-based proteins. However, there is considerable variability among animal-based proteins and some, like cod, are surprisingly low in leucine. When it comes to muscle protein synthesis and hypertrophy, some studies show animal-based proteins to be better, but there is mixed evidence and resistance training alone provides a strong stimulus for muscle protein synthesis. Overall, the research suggests that both plant-based and animal-based proteins can support muscle building."
