Understanding the Anatomy of the Spine

The spine consists of different regions - the cervical spine in the neck, thoracic spine in the chest area, lumbar spine below the thoracic, sacral spine in the pelvic region, and the coccyx spine at the very bottom. In addition to the bony segments, there are discs between the vertebrae that allow for movement and provide durability. These discs enable side to side movement and compression along the spine's length. They have a hole down the middle where the spinal cord is located, consisting of neurons and glia cells which support neural functions and regulate communication.
