Appearances can be deceiving. A common misconception about a government program providing breakfast for students, allegedly inspired by the Black Panther movement, was in fact established before the movement began. Similarly, the death of Hugh Newton in 1989, made to look like an Oakland PD hit, was actually orchestrated by someone seeking recognition, shooting Newton three times, twice in the head while he was on the ground.
