In the European Union, there is a constant disagreement on the set of priorities for Eastern Europe. Countries like Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, tend to have a more libertarian approach to business, avoiding hyper-regulation seen in countries like France and Germany. France and Germany are in favor of regulation as it protects incumbents in the market. This over-regulation from Brussels stems from a protectionist logic to safeguard established companies against competition from Eastern Europe, while ensuring access to Eastern European markets.
