The Intelligence: Supercharging India’s economy
The Intelligence from The Economist
Prosperity and Growth in Indian Politics
India's general election is a lengthy process involving millions of voters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to win a third term due to his perceived role in fostering prosperity. The country's economy is growing, becoming the world's fifth-largest and expected to reach third place by 2027. Private sector confidence is high, and poverty rates have decreased. However, doubts persist about the sustainability of India's success and the extent of Modi's influence. India's growth rate is around 6-6.5%, making it the fastest-growing major economy, but falls short compared to China's historical growth rates of 10%+. India is prospering, but it has not reached superstar status akin to China or the Asian Tigers in their prime.
