The Politics and Misconceptions Surrounding Drug Scheduling
The classification of drugs in the schedule system is influenced by politics rather than objective medical evidence. Psychodelics and cannabis, despite having medical benefits, are still classified as schedule one drugs. Opiates, on the other hand, have a legitimate medical use and are placed in schedule two or three. While opiates have been a blessing in terms of pain management, they also pose a significant risk for abuse. It's important to acknowledge both the benefits and drawbacks of drugs, as the Greeks did with their term 'pharmacon'.
