Meritocracy Merged with Aristocracy

Systematic public high school education emerged only by the late 19th century, leading to alternative pathways for skill acquisition outside of schooling. The elite learned that the success of their children depended on their accomplishments, prompting substantial investments in their education. This created a significant disparity in educational opportunities between typical middle-class children and those from the top 1%. If the financial difference in education was redirected into a trust fund, it could yield $10 to $15 million for each child from affluent backgrounds.
