The Unsustainability of Drilling Holes and Relying on Non-Renewable Energy Sources
Drilling for oil and relying on non-renewable energy sources are fundamentally unsustainable practices. The current global industrial system depends heavily on finite resources that are depleting at an alarming rate. The United States, with more oil wells than the rest of the world combined, has exploited the most accessible and productive basins. The existing reserves are increasingly found in shale oil, which, while plentiful, is characterized by rapid depletion and high costs of extraction. Beyond shale oil, there are virtually no viable sources left to support current energy demands. Financing ongoing consumption through non-renewable energy is akin to charging expenses on a national credit card, which is not a sustainable strategy for future generations.
