Understanding Medication Side Effects
Medication side effects can be categorized into three buckets: legitimate side effects that are well known, possible side effects that may not apply in certain cases, and fabricated side effects. All side effects are probabilistic, and theoretically any side effect can occur with any medication. It is essential to acknowledge and respect patients' concerns about side effects, whether they are real or due to the nocebo effect. The nocebo effect should not be used to dismiss patients' experiences with side effects, as they are valid regardless of the cause. Statin therapy is commonly associated with statin-related muscle symptoms.
