Exploring Art, Philosophy, and Resistance against Repression
Art and philosophy rise above forces that try to control and limit expressions. In academia, the concept of 'applied' ethics is pre-determined within existing frameworks, restricting the freedom to ask certain questions. In times of societal upheaval, art and philosophy play a crucial role in resisting repression, as advocated by D'Liz. However, there is a constant attempt to suppress these forms of expression, such as the commercialization of subversive art. The current era presents an opportunity to repurpose tactics developed by predecessors on the left to fuel contemporary resistance movements. Philosophy, traditionally seen as the dominant form of thought, now competes with the pervasive marketing influences in universities. Students are challenging authority figures who employ aggressive tactics like calling the police or the National Guard. This dynamic reflects a broader struggle for intellectual freedom against oppressive forces.
