*Abilene paradox *

The Abilene paradox describes a phenomenon where a group makes decisions that do not reflect the individual preferences of its members due to miscommunication and assumptions about others' opinions. Individuals often remain silent about their true views for fear of appearing out of step with the group, which leads to collective choices that contradict the desires of all. This can occur in social situations, such as attending an unenthusiastically accepted event, or in business settings where a proposal is supported despite widespread private dissent. Members of a community can also suppress their genuine feelings, fearing repercussions, resulting in a pervasive culture of conformity that stifles honest communication.
