Being too diligent about avoiding infections and sanitizing is not helpful as we are already exposed to a lot of microbes in our environment./nFirst world diseases like increased autoimmunity, allergy, and asthma are results of our ability to avoid microbial exposure./nSanitation revolution had positive impacts, but it also resulted in loss of exposure to environmental microbes, which caused the prevalence of first world diseases to increase./nPolio was endemic until sanitation improved, and it became more severe and noticeable when people were not exposed to it until they were older.
