This newfound strength led to the conquest of the kingdom of uratu and arpad. The Assyrians surprised their enemies by staying for a long siege, demonstrating their new power. The empire treated areas outside its boundaries as resource zones, extracting vast wealth from them. One text from the cruel king Ashurnazipal describes the immense wealth obtained, including horses, silver, gold, tin, bronze, iron, clothing, and luxurious furnishings.
