Different robots will be treated differently across cultures, just like animals
Companionship can serve as a strong social connection, even with pets that serve no purpose. Dogs in the United States used to have specific roles like guard dogs, but now they are considered part of the family. Animals are treated differently across cultures, with some being treated as workers, objects, food, or family. Similarly, with the rise of robots, there will be robots that people develop strong emotional connections to, based on cultural or personal factors, while others will be treated differently.
