The Big Five Becomes the Big Two: Stability and Plasticity
The original idea behind the big five personality traits was that they were unrelated to each other, but research discovered a pattern of association. Extraversion and openness tend to go together, while low neuroticism and high agreeableness and conscientiousness also tend to coexist. These patterns form two higher order factors above the big five, known as stability and plasticity.
