Having experiences with psychedelics can lead people to fear death less, but still not eliminate the fear entirely. It's important to not become dependent on expanded states induced by psychedelics, as the spiritual journey involves learning how to be present in normal life experiences. Heightened states induced by psychedelics can make people more self-aware and able to tune into similar experiences in their regular life. Consequently, the purpose of life and the judgment of others can shift towards a more patient and empathetic perspective, which can also be enhanced by meditation and other practices.
From therapeutic-assisted MDMA to decriminalized psilocybin and microdosing, movements to legalize psychedelics are everywhere. California-based Joe Green is a prominent voice in the movement, as the co-founder and President of the Psychedelic Science Funders Collaborative (PSFC). Kara asks him about the recent unfavorable headlines (including concerns over Elon Musk’s potential drug use and Matthew Perry’s death from ‘acute effects of ketamine’) and poses a question from Investigative Reporter Olivia Goldhill about how proselytizers can be held to account.
