Why do we find soft focus photography more attractive?
The visual system processes low frequency information faster than high frequency information. This explains why photographers used to use Vaseline on their camera lenses to create a soft focus effect and make people look more attractive. Instagram filters work similarly by removing high spatial frequencies. They give photos a dreamy look.
