Importance of the Therapy Relationship
The fundamental goal of therapy is not to improve the patient's relationship with the therapist, but to help the patient learn how to have a healthy relationship that considers the other person as a whole individual with their own thoughts, experiences, and feelings. In psychodynamic therapy, significant changes occur when patients transition from devaluation to genuine concern for the therapist as a person, reflecting the importance of the therapeutic relationship in fostering personal growth.
