NOTE

Brunello's School of Arts and Crafts in Salamel

Brunello Cucinelli had the idea to start a school to teach craftsmanship after seeing a friend, who had been a stucco decorator, working as a doorman. He wanted to preserve old crafts and make them contemporary. The school would function as a workshop, spread across the village, and pay students while they were being trained. Brunello believes in the wisdom of older people, so the faculty would be close to retirement. He decided to take his company public to become more international and financially secure, and to ensure that someone outside the family could manage it in the future. He emphasizes the importance of simplicity, avoiding work that doesn't bring fulfillment, and knowing when is enough. He recalls his father's contentment with hard physical work. Having enough is itself a form of wealth. His advice is to build an extraordinary reality every day and not to let others discourage ambitious plans. He encourages listening and learning from the elderly.
