Start with the Problem, Not the Tool

AI should be utilized primarily to address significant challenges rather than simply focusing on the technology itself. It is crucial for stakeholders to actively engage in supporting educational systems, like school districts, in the strategic implementation of AI. Leaders across various sectors have a vital role in facilitating systemic change in public education, which is notoriously difficult due to the lack of established frameworks for sustainable transformation. Effective change requires comprehensive support and resources to create a clear vision and leverage AI effectively towards that vision. Additionally, there is an urgent need to thoughtfully allocate funding towards pilot programs and testing of AI initiatives, particularly in under-resourced or historically marginalized communities, to ensure equitable access and impactful outcomes.
