The Energy Potential of a Uranium Pellet
A uranium fuel pellet, about the size of the end of a pinky finger, holds an immense amount of energy equivalent to 150 gallons of oil or a ton of coal. Despite being considered waste after use, these pellets still contain about 90% of their energy that can potentially be reprocessed and used again. Companies in the US are working towards building nuclear reactors that can burn nuclear waste to extract more energy from these pellets in the future.
