436. What Your Left Brain Won’t Tell Your Right Brain | Dr. Iain McGilchrist

The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast

NOTE

**The left hemisphere apprehends; the right hemisphere comprehends **

There is a vast body of evidence supporting the differences between the hemispheres of the brain. The left hemisphere is dominant in grabbing, simplifying, and controlling the right hand for actions like grasping. It excels in detailed attention and focus required for immediate survival. On the other hand, the right hemisphere is involved in comprehending the world at large by putting together information. Attention, perception, judgment, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, cognitive intelligence, IQ, and creativity are all areas where the right hemisphere outperforms the left. Attention, being a moral idea, shapes both the world and the individual's consciousness. The right hemisphere is shown to be superior in processing information from the external world compared to the left, which is perceived as radical and unreliable despite common beliefs.
