Living in the real world with real people, creating and connecting with diverse individuals, is more fulfilling than indulging in the digital world. Our brains are wired for small, diverse groups for meaningful connections and interesting lives. The brain cannot handle the overwhelming number of followers or the superficial relationships formed online. Instead, focus on using digital tools for useful purposes, like connecting with your cycling group. Don't be fooled by romanticized pictures on social media, real relationships require more than just posting images. Our brains don't perceive online interactions as true socializing. Prioritize spending time on meaningful activities rather than constantly engaging with the digital world.
In today’s episode, we try something different: a special two-part conversation in which Cal coaches his longtime friend, comedian and podcast pioneer Jamie Kilstein, through a digital declutter. The first part of the conversation ends with Cal’s prescription for Jamie, while the second part picks up six weeks later to check in on how things actually went.
