Laser Fusion and Energy Efficiency
A facility in the United States, the National Ignition Facility, achieved nuclear fusion using lasers to generate more fusion energy than was put in, although not enough to produce net electrical power. The process showed that laser fusion has potential, but is not yet efficient, as it only produced around 1% of the electricity the lasers used from the grid.
