Exploring the Rise of Anti-German Sentiment and Naval Tensions in England

The creation of Germany in 1870 sparked growing anxiety in England, especially towards the end of the 1890s. The aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War led to scare stories about German conquest, fueled by books like those about the Battle of the Dorking Gap. The Ber War further ignited tensions, with Germans being seen as similar to Burs. Newspapers, including the Daily Mail, played a significant role in publishing invasion scare stories to increase circulation. The naval race between Britain and Germany escalated animosity, with the fleet being perceived as a symbol of supremacy. However, by 1913, Germany unilaterally declared an end to the naval race, reducing tensions by 1914.
