Following the failed coup attempt by the Wagner private military corporation in Russia, there has been a reduction in public criticism and disagreement, with political discourse focusing on varying approaches rather than significant mistakes by the head of state. The feeble opposition and thorough crushing of dissent have led to little political capital for opposition movements. Failed coups decrease the likelihood of future coups, while successful coups increase the probability of further takeovers, creating a cycle that can destabilize a country into a series of coups.
