NOTE

Diplomacy Over Ego Avoids Rebellion

The British Tory Party's aggressive stance towards the Americans was driven by a desire to outshine the Whigs, ultimately leading to the American Revolution. King George III, despite lacking political power, insisted on the importance of respecting the monarchy's divine right. This rigid approach neglected the possibility of a more conciliatory relationship with the Americans. Had Britain offered the Americans their own parliament, similar to what was granted to Canada and Australia later, the revolution might have been avoided. This failure highlights the detrimental impact of ego in politics over diplomacy.
