The modern food environment has disrupted our homeostatic systems, making it harder to feel full from calorie-dense foods, and overstimulating our reward systems with highly palatable foods. These non-conscious brain systems, evolved to support survival, are being pushed in the wrong direction by the modern environment, leading to overconsumption and increased body fat despite having sufficient reserves.
